About the EdTech Lab
A collaborative space for experimentation, research, and bold thinking in educational technology.
Why we exist
Too many edtech products promise transformation overnight ... yet little changes. EdTech Lab challenges this status quo by asking harder questions and building better tools for the global good.
The EdTech Lab is a collaborative initiative dedicated to pushing the boundaries of educational technology. We create and share original tools, evaluate existing products, and provide critical, evidence‑based insights into the edtech industry.
What we do
- Design & build: We prototype and release open, practical tools that solve real problems.
- Evaluate & review: We examine claims, test usability, and surface what actually works.
- Publish insights: We translate research into clear guidance for educators, leaders, and developers.
Our approach
We operate as a laboratory: an active space for testing, refining, and scaling ideas that have the potential to make a real impact in education. Every project begins with a commitment to evidence, not marketing, ensuring that the tools and strategies we develop are grounded in rigorous research and verifiable results.
Our process is collaborative from the start, bringing together educators, learners, developers, and policy experts to co-design solutions that address real-world needs. We believe that educational technology must be user-centered, built with the direct input of those who will use it, and adaptable enough to evolve as needs and contexts change.
Transparency is another guiding principle: we share our criteria, methods, and results openly, enabling others to replicate, adapt, and improve upon our work. By combining methodological rigor, user-focused design, and open collaboration, EdTech Lab ensures that every initiative we undertake moves the field forward in measurable and meaningful ways.
Focus areas
Our work prioritizes initiatives with the potential to create scalable, systemic change in education. Artificial intelligence is a central area of exploration, with an emphasis on practical and ethical applications that genuinely enhance teaching, learning, and decision-making, rather than simply adopting AI because it is fashionable.
We are equally committed to open-knowledge solutions, recognizing that adaptability, transparency, and sustainability are essential for long-term impact. Open tools allow educators, institutions, and governments to adapt technologies to local needs without being locked into proprietary constraints. Beyond individual tools, we focus on systems-level impact, developing strategies and resources that can influence and strengthen education at a national or even global scale. Whether we are building a new application, evaluating an emerging technology, or advising on policy, our goal is to identify approaches that are both innovative and implementable, capable of transforming education in ways that endure.
How to work with us
We welcome collaboration with educators, researchers, developers, and organizations who want to build and test meaningful solutions.
Have a tool or idea worth testing? Let’s put it in the lab and find out what it can really do.
